For phonics we use Jolly Phonics in Year R and 'letters and sounds' in KS1.  To support the development of reading we use a variety of texts which are carefully graded by reading levels called Book Bands.  These texts are from a variety of reading schemes including Songbirds, Oxford Reading Tree, Rigby Star and Rigby Navigator. If you would like more information on our phonics or reading schemes, please contact the school office.

Through our aims we will achieve our vision of Together Everyone Achieves More at TEAM St. Mary's

Twyford Learning Keys

At Twyford we use our Learning Keys as a tool to help promote learning values. These follow the principles of Guy Claxton’s Building Learning Power (BLP) initiative. Our key learning values are:

PERSEVERE, EXPLORE, EVALUATE and INDEPENDENCE/TEAM.

These words are used across Key Stage 1 and 2 and unpicked with the children to ensure their understanding.

In addition to these learning value words, we also promote Christian Values and our core values are:

COURAGE, CARE, JOY and RESPECT.

Through our daily practise children and staff promote these behaviours and illustrate these values.
